Level Descriptions 

 Gentle Yoga

In the gentle yoga classes, the emphasis is on moving slowly, with complete awareness.  We pause  frequently to observe on a subtle inner level the effects of the poses on our bodies/minds/emotions.  Anybody, no matter how fit, can benefit from a gentle yoga practice. This type of practice is especially good for reducing stress.  We consciously use the breath to expand tight areas of the body. In contrast to the "power yoga" or "yoga fit" style of classes, in a gentle yoga class, you will probably not break into a sweat.  This means that you will probably not need a shower afterwards, and, in many cases you could wear the clothes you normally wear to work, as long as they are not restricting. 

Continuing Yoga

Please sign up for Continuing Yoga only if you have had at least 6-8 weeks of previous yoga instruction.  and know the Sun Salute.  You may also join a continuing yoga class if you come first for 2-3 private sessions with Hiyala, and if you are in good physical condition with a regular exercise program, and have no recent injuries or chronic conditions that limit your range of movement.  Modifications of poses can be made for mild conditions. 

Mixed Level

As usual, all instruction is given as if the pose is new for everybody.  Because everyday is new, and your body is new everyday, we always take things in at different levels.  This class is for those who can self pace without comparing oneself to others since there will be all levels.   Beginners are encouraged to move in and out of the poses.  Advanced students hold them longer.   More advanced students will be able to move more deeply into the poses because their previous work with yoga has created a body awareness that allows it.
